Bayer Crop Science Group Leverages AR for Weather Damage Demonstration to Corn Crops
In collaboration with HLK Agency and Bayer Crop Science Group, Groove Jones created an innovative augmented reality (AR) experience to demonstrate how high winds impact traditional corn versus Preceon™ Smart Corn System short-stature corn hybrids. This interactive platform complements a print campaign and serves as a centerpiece at tradeshow events.
Short-stature and regular-stature corn grow before the user’s eyes, with the experience pausing at 30 inches. At this point, a callout highlights the additional spraying access that Preceon provides. The system pauses again as the corn reaches full height, indicating the ear’s height at 2 feet. This interlude sets the stage for users to see how the corn performs against natural elements.
The project’s main objectives were to present Preceon’s advantages in an engaging and visually captivating manner, provide users with an intuitive AR experience, and integrate lifelike 3D representations of corn at various growth stages while simulating diverse weather conditions. Short stature corn hybrids offer strong protection against the elements and greater application flexibility, when compared to traditional corn heights.
Wind Test In Action
After tapping the activation button, the user’s camera is turned on. A FieldView logo emerges, materializing as an AR overlay, generating an illustrative heat map on the floor surface. This dynamic display demarcates where the AR corn will grow. Simultaneously, spots illuminate, pinpointing ideal seeding locations. A window then overlays, conveying the collaborative effort between Bayer agronomists and users in determining optimal seeding rates for their fields.
The user has controls to select from 30, 60, and 90 MPH typical wind conditions to see how each corn group is impacted by wind.
Users can select from a spectrum of wind speeds, spanning from typical to severe to derecho.
As the wind increases, the user can see the damaging effects to the traditional corn stalk, while the short stature corn hybrid is better protected due to its height.
Post-experience, users can tap a button, triggering a web page launch featuring a Bayer video. This serves as a gesture of gratitude to the inaugural commercial Preceon growers.
