Corona Extra and the University of Texas are celebrating their brand partnership with a second sneaker collaboration.
The two brands are releasing 12 pairs of the new Corona x University of Texas sneakers, which fans can enter to win by playing an augmented-reality game that takes place on a Corona-branded beach. Sneaker designer Jake Danklefs designed 12 pairs of Nike Air Max shoes that incorporate branding elements from Corona and the Texas Longhorns.
Danklefs also partnered with Corona last March to design 12 pairs of Texas Longhornsinspired Jordan 3s, a more niche basketball shoe. Those shoes were part of a special giveaway during March Madness.
Danklefs said that the design process of this year’s sneaker is different from the first go-round.
“The last one kind of was more Corona-centric, if that makes sense,” Danklefs said of the first iteration of the shoe, which had a midsole painted with sand-textured paint to resemble the beach, an essential part of Corona’s branding.
This year, the Corona x University of Texas shoe is more focused on the Longhorns branding, with various Corona elements added into the design.
