NCAA Men’s and Women’s Final Four Championship Fan Experience for LG
Cogent World and Allied Sports partnered with Groove Jones to design and build two digital experiences for their fan activations for the men’s and women’s NCAA Final Four Championship.
Men’s NCAA Final Four Fan Experience in Houston
For the Men’s NCAA Final Four in Houston, Texas, the experience leveraged our XR Avatar Scanner, rebranded as the LG MAX Out XR Experience, allowed fans to be volumetrically scanned and then turned into a fantastic video where they perform a signature slam dunk over an LG Counter-Depth Max Mirror InstaView Refrigerator.
Even the University of Houston’s Forward Jarace Walker joined in on the fun and was volumetrically captured for his own “LG Max Out Slam Dunk” video.
LG’s Home Court Activation had a prime position at the Men’s Final Four Fan Fest. Guests who attended queued up to be scanned in the MAX Out XR Experience for their own customized video. Along the way, they got to check out LG’s OLED TVs and refrigerators and win LG prizes.
After getting scanned, fans receive a custom video highlighting the guest on the arena floor. They run up and jump over an LG Counter-Depth Max Mirror InstaView Refrigerator while performing an unbelievable slam dunk.
Check Out What Guests Received
Each fan video is personalized with their 3D scan, which has been rigged and animated so that they can make the moves on the court.
Groove Jones generated the media using AWS cloud rendering and our patented GrooveTech 3D mesh software platform—perfect for social sharing.
We scanned 1,000 people daily with the system, averaging 90 people per hour, making it one of the fastest volumetric scanner systems in the world.
Women’s NCAA Final Four Fan Experience in Dallas
For the Women’s NCAA Final Four Fan Experience in Dallas, Texas, we leveraged our GrooveTech FanScan system to create a mobile web experience that allows guests to enter the MAX Out XR Experience without the scanner.
Guests who attended the Women’s Final Four Fan Fest could scan a QRCode with their phones at the activation.
By scanning their faces with their mobile device, we could composite them into a custom animated avatar basketball player and drop them into the “Max Out XR Experience” so they could view themselves performing a signature slam dunk over an LG Counter-Depth Max Mirror InstaView Refrigerator.
After scanning their faces, fans received a video in which they appeared on the home team’s floor as basketball players.
The Mobile Web App video depicts the LG Max refrigerator doors opening to the stadium inside.
Users’ avatars are placed inside the refrigerator, where they can see fans cheering them on.
The LG MAX refrigerator produces Craft Ice, which we use as a basketball to dunk. The Craft Ice is an actual feature of the refrigerator.
The GrooveTech XR FanScan system allows fans to customize a character in a video (or even a game) without needing special hardware. The system composites the user’s 3D face scan into a customized pre-configured animated character. We leveraged the “Max Out XR Experience” video across two activations, extending the overall throughput and potential audience. This system was leveraged on the custom LG webpage https://www.lg.com/us/ncaa, which was used in LG’s PR and outreach campaign.
