Tara Wilson Agency partnered with Groove Jones to transform a top tech organization’s smartphone training into an immersive and engaging experience. The goal was to move beyond traditional methods and create an interactive WebAR game that seamlessly integrated key phone features into a fast-paced, face-controlled challenge.

The Solution: A Face-Tracking WebAR Game with Power-Ups

WebAR Experience

Groove Jones developed an AR Camera Filter Effect designed as a gamified learning experience, accessible through a simple QR code scan. Once launched, users could choose from three unique game levels, each highlighting a new phone feature as a Power-Up to enhance gameplay.

Each power-up icon was carefully selected by TWA and Groove Jones to refer to the three main features in the new phone.

  • Demo 1 – This AI feature (AI Scheduler) helps you get work done and avoid a long task list, demonstrated by a to-do list and AI imagery as power-ups.
  • Demo 2 – This AI feature (Now Brief) provides a quick, personalized overview of your day, including weather, schedule reminders, news, health updates, travel info, and smart home insights. Users avoided the storm cloud and collected umbrella coins to highlight the usefulness of this feature.
  • Demo 3 – This AI feature (Audio Eraser) removes unwanted background noise from video recordings using advanced signal processing. It eliminates distractions like voices and wind, ensuring clear, crisp audio, as demonstrated by the microphone and noise icons.

Users controlled the game through facial movements, navigating an avatar through a dynamic racecourse while collecting points. The game was designed to be intuitive and easy to play while reinforcing product benefits in an immersive way.

Seamless Web-Based Deployment and Custom Avatar Creator

WebAR Experience

To maximize accessibility and eliminate app downloads, Groove Jones leveraged WebAR technology for a frictionless experience. Players could instantly access the game via a QR code, launching it directly in their mobile browser. The experience was optimized for Android devices and developed using our proprietary GrooveTech code base, ensuring high-performance execution.

Upon joining the game, each player inputs their email address and district. Then, they were able to customize their avatar by changing their skin tone and the color of their running outfit, which featured the top tech organization’s branding. TWA and Groove Jones collaborated on the design and branding of the avatar, creating a seamless, customizable experience for all.

Integrated Leaderboard for Competitive Engagement

WebAR Experience

A custom leaderboard system enhanced player engagement by fostering competition across different groups and districts. Users could enter their scores, see where they ranked, and track overall performance. The system featured:

  • District-based scoreboards to encourage team competition
  • Dynamic score updates with anti-spam filtering for appropriate entries

By tapping into competitive elements, the leaderboard drove sustained participation, making training not only educational but also fun.

Analytics & Performance Tracking

To measure engagement and optimize the experience, Groove Jones integrated real-time analytics tracking. The system captured key metrics such as:

  • Daily active users
  • Average session time
  • Leaderboard activity

These insights provided the client with a clear picture of user interaction, helping them refine future training initiatives.
