Scooby-Doo Character Studio: an Interactive Customized Collectible E-commerce Experience
Acme Innovation worked with Groove Jones to create a never-been-done-before interactive experience for Scooby-Doo fans and Warner Bros. Discovery. The project brings the beloved characters Scooby-Doo and Shaggy to life through an interactive web app, allowing fans to create personalized Mystery Inc. style avatars and immerse themselves in the original Scooby-Doo classic adventure, “What A Night for a Knight.”
The interactive experience’s primary feature is a web-based application that lets fans participate in an interview with Scooby-Doo and Shaggy. Fans can also create personalized avatars in the classic 1970s Scooby-Doo art style. The app also includes an e-commerce store so that fans can purchase personalized merchandise with their custom avatar character alongside the Mystery Inc. gang.
Interactive Video Interview Experience Walkthrough
Fans begin their journey in the Character Studio by participating in an animated video call with Scooby-Doo and Shaggy.
This interactive feature uses the actual actors Matthew Lillard, the voice of Norville “Shaggy” Rogers, and Frank Welker, the longtime voice of Scooby-Doo. Here, Scooby and Shaggy ask for the user’s name, and they respond in a real-time conversation.
Shaggy will ask some fun and important questions, such as: “What’s your favorite color?” “Do you prefer science experiments or making art?” and “Would you enter a creepy abandoned house first?” Each question provides logic for the customized book technology that will position your avatar character in the “What A Night for a Knight” collectible book.
Groove Jones crafted the interview with nostalgic aesthetics and engaging animations, like breaking the 4th wall, that was true to the brand and style of Scooby-Doo.
Avatar Character Creation and Customization
After the interview, users then move on to building their avatar where they can customize their character with various options, including height, body shape, face shapes, skin hue, hairstyles, eye shapes, nose shapes, mouth styles, clothing, and accessories.
The artwork in Character Studio uses the classic 2D 1970s Scooby-Doo art style, ensuring a nostalgic and retro personalized touch. Fans can create up to five avatars and store them in their library, allowing fans to get creative with various outfits.
When you are done, you can download a set of avatar graphics that are perfect for social sharing.
Personalized Collectible Merchandise
Based on the avatar characters they’ve created, fans can purchase custom-designed t-shirts, posters, and hoodies featuring any of their avatars.
The posters feature your custom avatar inside the Mystery Machine.
Shirts featuring customized graphics of your avatar and the Gang.
Alongside t-shirts, posters, and hoodies, users have the option to purchase a custom graphic novel, which integrates the avatars into the storylines, making the user a part of the Scooby-Doo world.
Users can preview their customized book and have the option to purchase a digital or physical version, perfect for holiday gifts. The Launch Edition book is based on the first-ever episode of Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!, “What a Night for a Knight.”
The Scooby-Doo Character Studio exemplifies Groove Jones’s ability to combine advanced technology with beloved animation styles to create a unique and engaging user experience. By allowing fans to interact with their favorite characters and become a part of the story, Groove Jones and the Acme Innovation team delivered a memorable and personalized adventure. They highlighted the true potential of interactive web applications and customized merchandising.
