Groove Jones had the extraordinary opportunity to bring Launch Agency’s client, Baylor Scott and White Health’s campaign “Goals Start Here,” to life through an innovative AR experience. The experience is based on a creative concept that features Jake Oettinger, goalie of the Dallas Stars, whose inner voice – his “Motivotter” is used to help inspire fans on their personal health journey.
Through Groove Jones’s design and development, the AR experience places Jake Oettinger as your personal Hype Man, who helps people achieve their goals in real life by showing up in selfie videos or photos that users take.
The Motivotter filter has received over 70 million impressions, and engagement time averages over two minutes.
The Groove Jones team developed a digital double of Oettinger in the form of a mini-AR Jake. Only it isn’t actually Jake: It’s his inner voice, which is named Motivotter, a combination of his nickname “Otter” and “motivation.”
The experience allows users to place Motivotter on any surface, next to anything they’ve achieved or want to achieve. Like eating healthier, working out more, walking their dog—you name it, Motivotter is there celebrating your victories with cheers, back flips, and a variety and dance moves.
Available on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok as a Social AR Experience
Fans can launch the experience from any of their favorite social platforms. By scanning a QR Code on any ad units running throughout the city or visiting www.motivotter.com, they land on a webpage that includes links to the Social AR experience found on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. (TikTok recently approved Groove Jones as their platform’s official AR filter developer.)
After you tap on your favorite link, the page automatically launches the App and starts the filter.
Fans were encouraged to share their Motivotter moments.
Being part of the native social platform makes it easy to post and share, where your friends can then access the filter as they watch the videos that fans post.
Making the Digital Double of Jake Oettinger
Groove Jones had the pleasure of welcoming Jake Oettinger to our studio, where we scanned him inside our XR Avatar Scanner, a portable 3D volumetric scanner we developed.
The XR Avatar Scanner is powered by 50 4K cameras that capture HDR (high dynamic range—for color and depth) using multiple focal lengths. This instantly captures both the geometry and texture of the person standing inside, allowing us to make a lifelike mini-AR version of Jake.
The volumetric capture process took seconds and provided an exact digital copy of Jake for our team to then turn into the AR effect.
The team rigged the 3D geometry model data and added animations like “Griddy” and “Running Man” for Jake’s dance moves.
The social app AR experience can be used on three social media platforms: Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok. While the AR experience is open, users will be prompted to use the selfie mode (front-facing camera) or world view (back-facing camera).
The campaign is running throughout the Dallas and Fort Worth Metroplex.
We are proud to leverage this partnership to inspire fans around Dallas to achieve their goals – big or small. Visit www.motivotter.com to check it out.
Even the Dallas Stars are having fun with it.
