AT&T brought the XR Avatar Scanner to the NBA All-Star Weekend in Salt Lake City, Utah, to power the Playmaker Arcade highlighting AT&T’s 5G network. The NBA activation included two interactive games that allowed fans to be volumetrically scanned and then play against NBA stars Paul George and Vince Carter, as well as a variety of NBA mascots.
Paul George and Vince Carter star in AT&T’s Playmaker Arcade games. These games allow fans onsite at NBA Crossover to turn themselves into 360-degree avatars, while fans at home can play along through a web version of the game. The games were available to be played on large-screen displays to highlight their moves on the court.
Groove Jones provided the XR Avatar Scanner that allowed users to create a 3d avatar of themselves where they faced off against the NBA players.
Dunk Champion Mobile Game
In the Dunk Champion mobile web game, fans showed off their dunking skills against Paul George or Vince Carter. The game highlights players on an AT&T-branded court, where they take turns moving down the court and then selecting dunk combo moves for points. The game features three rounds where they attempt to score the highest points.
Fans who played within the Playmaker Arcade would see themselves and their opponent’s points on oversized displays, which added to the competition.
Dribble Dash Mobile Game
In the Dribble Dash mobile web game, fans competed against Paul George, Vince Carter, and a variety of NBA mascots that included Dallas Mavericks Champ, Chicago Bulls Benny the Bull, Houston Rockets Clutch the Bear, and the LA Clippers Chuck the Condor. Players ran through an arcade-style endless runner game mechanic; there, they moved left and right to dodge obstacles and to pick up points. At the end of the game they received a sizzle video highlighting their play.
Fans could choose to play as themselves, a team mascot, or as an NBA great.
Getting Scanner – Fans and NBA Greats
The experience was open to the public, but several NBA players stopped by to get scanned and play on the arcade games.
